Red-tailed Hawk (J.Kenney 3/13/10)
When you can’t see whether the tail is red, look for the dark patagial marks (leading edge of wing between chest and “wrist”) to I.D. the Red-tailed Hawk. The red-tailed is our most common hawk, frequently seen soaring on thermals.
