It’s wickedly beaked, clatters like a machine gun, lives 25 years & stands 60″ tall with a 100″ wingspan | BBC Wildlife

BBC Discover Wildlife has interesting articles, great photos and short films, and it’s all free. It is, however, getting a little tricky to navigate through their advertising. In this one, ignore everything in the right sidebar, and everything everywhere about “viewing” and “continuing.” Just scroll down to read and see. There’s a short film titled What do Shoebills eat which looks like a film so you shouldn’t be fooled. The Shoebill is one of my nemesis birds, and if you don’t know what that means, consider yourself fortunate.
It clatters like a machine gun, has a deadly prehistoric-looking beak, can live for 25 years and can grow up to a whopping 1.5m tall with a wingspan of 2.6m
This bird can can stand still as a statue for hours, will stare you out and cruelly kill its sibling using its huge, razor-sharp bill.

A good place to see them is in Bangweulu.
